Building His Kingdom - In Our Communities

The King (Jesus) will say, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me....the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" Matthew 25:34-40

Raven Ministries’ Commitment to the Great Commission

At Raven Ministries International Training Center, the Great Commission is not a slogan—it is our mandate. We take the gospel beyond the church walls and into streets, neighborhoods, campuses, and communities where hope is often hardest to find. Through consistent, hands-on outreach—serving the homeless, ministering to the elderly, engaging youth, reaching families, and proclaiming Christ in public spaces—we demonstrate the love and truth of Jesus in both word and deed. Our mission is simple and unwavering: to make disciples, transform lives, and take the Good News into the bad places until every community has been touched by the power of the gospel.

The University of New Orleans (UNO) is the home to over 6,000 students. It is also the location where our Raven College Campus Ministry shares the Gospel on Monday's during the school year.

This ministry, lead by Pastor Alex and Holly Hill, has made great strides on campus since taking over the responsibility of this outreach and have been able to connect and partner with several other student ministry groups in the process.

If you have a passion to reach the college aged young people - this would be an ideal opportunity to share your faith and to build relationships in a place that has proven very open to the Gospel message.

During the height of the Covid pandemic, Raven Ministires was invited to come to the Wynhoven Senior Apartments and Assisted Living Center on the Westbank of New Orleans.

Our team began taking our "Taco Trailer" to the location and serving hot meals to the residents. This opened the door to beginning a Sunday afternoon Worship service for the many that seldom leave the property.

Presently our team prepares and distributes hot meals to the residents every Tuesday morning under the guidance of Raven staffer, Janet Bacon. This ministry has opened the door to pray and minister to many senior adults that are in the final years of their lives.

This has been a tremendous ministry to our senior adults in accordance with James 1:27, "Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress..."

Dating back to the beginning of their ministry, Pastor Troy and Melanie Bohn have always done some sort of ministry to the homeless and hungry.

At there first church plant in 1991 (The Dayspring Dream Center in Texas) they started the Jesus Cafe which served an average of 250 "sit down" meals to the hungry for lunch.

In 2003, when they started Raven New Orleans, they began "Midnight Meals" in New Orleans' Jackson Square (French Quarter) where they were serving 200+ meals to the homeless on the streets late Friday nights.

Their church planting efforts in Daytona Beach (Florida) began with feeding the latch-key kids that would gather late at night along the Band Shell and Board Walkon Atlantic Ave.

In New Orleans, Pastor Troy became widely known in the homeless community as The Taco Man as the team woul take the food trailer underneath the Clairborne Bridge in Downtown New Orleans for the weekly "Taco Tuesday" outreach where they would feed 400-500 people each day.

When COVID struck, the team mobilized and were serving 1200 meals (7) days a week to (6) different locations due to other serives for the homeless being shut down.

Today - our teams prepare meals and distribute them at two primary locations each week in the French Quarter: Latrode Park and Washington Square Park. Additionally we provide clothing, blankets, shoes and a variety of other necessities upon request.

While feeding serves a very proactical need, our primary mission is to see the cycle of addition and spiritual bondage broken off of the many lives that we encounter while ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8 begins by saying, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem."

Gretna, Louisiana (the home base of the Raven Ministries Int'l Training Center) is our Jerusalem. While connected to and indistinguishable to those unfamilar with the area from the other municipalities that make up Greater New Orleans - we decided to not only venture to other areas, but to also provide a visible presence to our local community as well.

Every Tuesday afternoon between 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM, our teams gather about 100 yards from the front door of our center at the corner of the Westbank Expressway and Lafayette St.

There we share our faith through open-air preaching and signs declaring "Jesus Saves" to the hundreds stopping to hear the 90-Second Sermon as they await the changing of the traffic light.

We give out Gospel tracts and have had many opportunities to pray and minister to those stopping to "see what we were doing." Many of the men bring their children along to help in this ministry each week!

Located at 433 Dauphine St in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter, The Raven's Nest Ministry Center serves as a beacon of light in the midst of one of America's most notorious neighborhoods.

Everything from Voodoo Shops, to strip clubs and drag shows, to live music and southern cuisine can be found around most any corner in the French Quarter.

While known as an "Entertainment Center" for the city - the term "vice" would be more appropriate as sex-trafficing, drug dealing and violent crime are mainstays.

These are the very reasons that we have continued in our mandate to "Take the Good News into the Bad Places" for over 30 years!

In conjuntion with this mission, we host a weekly ministry and Bible Study at the Raven's Nest every Tuesday. At 5:30 PM out team gathers for a time of prayer before walking the Quarter to invite any would-be stragglers to come, sit, share a cup of coffee and hear the Word of God.

At 6:30 PM, Pastor Roy or one of the team shares a message and prayer and ministry are offered. This has proven to be a great way to get people off the "battle ground" and on to the "Holy Ground"where the Spirit of God can speak into their lives.

Each week, our Adopt-A-Block Ministry goes into local neighborhoods to serve real people with real needs. We build relationships, pray with families, share the Gospel, distribute food and essential items, and bring hope directly to the streets we’ve committed to love. This is not a one-time outreach, but a long-term presence—showing up consistently, earning trust, and pointing people to Jesus through both word and action. We believe transformation happens when the Church leaves the building and becomes the hands and feet of Christ in the community.

Raven Revolution – West Jefferson High School
Raven Revolution is reaching the next generation at West Jefferson High School by bringing the Gospel into the everyday lives of students.

Through consistent presence, real conversations, prayer, and biblical truth, we point young people to Jesus in a culture filled with pressure, confusion, and brokenness. Each month, our team serves nearly 2,000 meals to students as a tangible expression of Christ’s love, while also establishing a weekly Bible study to disciple young believers and help them grow in their faith.

Our heart is to see students encounter Christ, be grounded in God’s Word, and become bold witnesses for Him right where they are.

Mid-Week Coffee Shop Ministry
Our mid-week coffee shop ministry brings the Gospel out of the church and into the public square through “flash mob” Bible studies in local coffee shops. We gather right where life is happening—tables, cups, noise, and all—opening the door for real conversations, prayer, and Gospel encounters.

By meeting people in familiar, everyday spaces, walls come down, hearts open up, and faith moves from private belief to public witness. No stage. No script. Just the Word of God, real people, and Jesus at work in the middle of ordinary life.
